Milestone published books for about 4-5 years, then everything stopped. Lots of reasons had been given, but I am sure it came down to business. Dollars and cents, especially at that time. The comic book biz was a little out of wack.
That all aside, these comics were among the best in terms of story I have ever read. The characters were well-developed and the plots thoughtful. When I hear that they are being "merged" into the DC Universe (yes the get to play alongside Superman, Batman and the rest of the gang), it is a good thing, bad thing to me. It is great to see these characters in print. To see new stories that involved them is going to be interesting. But I think it bad that they are going to be submerged into DC. I hope that uniqueness and depth that made the heroes of Dakota so interesting isn't lost.
But that is show biz. You have to take risks to get your stories out there. The first "return" will be in Justice League of America #27. It is written by Dwayne McDuffie. One of the Milestone founders from way back, so I have high hopes for this one.
On a more selfish note, this will probably mean the Milestone Rave is going to impossible to keep self-contained. I don't think I am going to track down every appearance of a Milestone character in DC. But I will be on the look out for good stories.
Here to hoping it is a grand return for Milestone.
