picked off...

So it is just another Friday, psych! It is not another Friday. This TGIF is end of a long, emotional week. My company followed suit with the recession and laid off several people.

It is hard to see so many talented people leave. I don't think I am going to comment more than that. I have seen and talked about such things before (too often). This is just a hard time right now, I am afraid that it is going to get a little worse too. Just got to keep pushin', learnin', and hopin' for the best.

So that is the downside of the week. The good part! Is it the last Friday before our honeymoon. Finally.. we have had it planned for months now. New Zealand here we come. It is only the second time that I will have been out of the country (well besides Tijuana). Hopefully they don't drive on the wrong side of the street like in Ireland.

But hell, even if they do, I can hang. We don't really have an agenda, just looking forward to some serious chill time. I need to recharge those batteries, cause I feel like I got picked off by Shaq!

an unsettled time

I haven't written a blog in a couple of weeks. Maybe that means I don't have a lot to talk about. January has flown by so fast. Christine and I are excited about our honeymoon. We finally are going to take it. Going to New Zealand for the first two weeks of February.

It will be only me second international trip. The one to Ireland was a lot of fun, so I know this one will be also. New Zealand has been one of those place that intrigued me.

It is going to be good to get away for a couple of weeks. The beginning of 2009 is an unsettled time for us. Many people are losing jobs and every time you turn on the news... it seems grim. But I do have hope in the new president. Obama does bring hope and I also get a sense that he brings honesty. Even if that honesty is hard to face.

In the end, I think it is time for the United States as a country to face some hard truths. We have lived on credit for too long. I think the housing loan market was the biggest con of all time. It artificially drove up the value of houses to the point where even families with good jobs could not buy a house. Someone made a lot of money...

Hopefully, even though this market "correction" is going to be painful, it will allow people to recommit to principles and be happy with who they are and what they have. Not mortgage your future to keep up with the joneses.....

Alrighty.. enough rambling.. might right more tomorrow. The drawing is a cover the Astro City. A new comic of the series may finally appear later this year. It is a good read!

Happy New Year!

It is the first day of 2009. I hope that everyone had a safe and happy start to the year. The wifey and I kept it mellow. Went to eat some dinner, then watched Dick Clark at midnight. Yikes, is that guy old or what? They need to stop putting him on the television.

Well before, it gets to far in the rear view mirror, I want to let everyone know how great the year 2008 was for me! I got married. Wow.. what an amazing experience. A lot of things happened to me in 2008, but it all seems small compared to my marriage.

So thanks to everyone who made that day great. I felt like I was just along for the ride. And especially thanks to my beautiful Christine. She worked hard to make our wedding a great day for both of our families and all of our friends. You did a great job baby doll. I so glad to have you as my wife, because of that 2008 will always be a special year.

Now onto 2009! We still got that delayed honeymoon to take care of :-)

New Zealand, here we come!
